Screen Shot 2014-12-27 at 9.17.20 AMIt is such a delight to be able to share what was a top secret project. Ariana Grande and Little Big Town were the hit of the Country Music Awards ceremony with their fabulous outfits we made for them using our double density RGB LED light roll, by none other than Cool Neon’s own, Benny James! We are pretty excited!

CMA Ariana in Workroom 1

CMA Ariana in Workroom2This is what they looked like in our workroom!

And here is a video!

The costumes got a lot of press. We especially like the Billboard mention, click HERE to see it, and they even mention Katy Perry’s costume, which was also made right here in our workroom.  E! Online also gave the costumes a shout out and also referenced Katy’s costume, click HERE to read it.

It has been an exciting year and we love sharing it with you.

Michael_Lamb_3 Maleficient

Michael_Lamb spiderWe have some fabulous costumes and Halloween Ideas to get your creative juices flowing for the upcoming season. The first two, the amazing Maleficent and the spider web costumes are from Michael Lamb.

01_Derecho_costume_sketchIn addition, we have this working sketch and tutorial from our client, Vivian. It is a costume inspired by the violent Derecho storm that hit her area in June, 2012.

To create the costume, Vivian dressed all in black, with silver face makeup. The storm cloud was two white afro wigs that came prewired with flashing white lights on batteries. The lightning bolts were made with aqua Cool Neon Electroluminescent Wire, powered by portable battery packs, and sewn in lightning patterns down both arms and across her chest. They were set to flash in rhythm.

The tornadoes were represented by lime green Cool Neon Electroluminescent Wire wrapped around her legs, and held up (more or less) by elastic bands. The wind was shown two ways: she carried a leaf blower painted black she had blowing when she entered the room; and also she sewed cocktail umbrellas and little cars all over her petticoat, as a lot of her deck umbrellas went flying off during the storm. For some extra drama, she sewed a “dog collar” of flashing colored lights. This took a few weeks of planning, researching, and sewing, but it was worth it: it was the first time she had seen so many of her friends actually speechless! And she won First Prize for Best Costume. The only problem is: How is she going to top this next year?
